Enfield rifle drill and Hythe military school details
A lengthy account describes the Hythe School of Musketry at Hythe near the sea, led by Major General Hay. It details rifle training for officers and volunteers, distance judging drills, kneeling and standing firing positions, loading drills, and target practice. It notes capacity for 60 officers and 300 enlisted, a ten week course, and reported marks from 1855. It also lists volunteer commissions and infantry companies offering service.
