Aunt Winnah the Florida milker and her forty cows
Mrs Harriet Beecher Stowe describes Aunt Winnah a stout Carolina dairywoman who oversees milking butter making and milk distribution for forty cows with one assistant. The Florida pasture calves roam the woods and near the house the calves are kept to lure cows for milking, while Winnah tends daily chores and cares for her herd with maternal affection, occasionally missing milking when cows are delayed.
