Railroad Bills Passed Aiding Erie and Pittsburgh Lines
Before the Legislature adjourned two railroad bills affecting Butler County were approved. One authorizes construction from Freeport to New Castle via Butler and conjoined valleys, and a branch toward Pittsburgh. The Erie and Pittsburgh Railroad gains funds to extend Newcastle to Pittsburgh. Col Quay steered both measures, likely speeding northeastern county railroad development.
