A 25 year old Baytown man was jailed after fleeing from a traffic stop in the 4300 block of North Main. He ran into an apartment complex on West Baker where officers found him hiding. An altercation occurred as officers restrained him and he was charged with a state jail felony for evading arrest.
Police report 1,512 accidents this year in Baytown, down from 1,631 in the prior nine months of 2008. Major accidents with injuries numbered 389, slightly below last year’s 406. Auto pedestrian crashes rose to 15 from eight last year, while motorcycle and bicycle incidents remained at zero so far. Thirteen fatalities have occurred in Baytown auto crashes this year, up from seven at the same point in 2008.
Baytown police arrested a local teen, a 10th grader, for driving while intoxicated about 7:45 a.m. Sunday in the 300 block of Bob Smith Road. A series of burglaries and thefts were reported, including a stolen 27 inch plasma TV from a residence in the 300 block of East Foyle, an air conditioning unit from Harold Lane, and cash and a checkbook from an unlocked car on Iowa Street. A purse was stolen from an unlocked vehicle at an auto dealership on Interstate 10.
Police said equipment valued at about $1,000 was taken from the 3700 block of Allenbrook in a theft reported Saturday into early Sunday.

Police found a man peering inside parked vehicles in the 100 block of West Sterling around 3 20 a m Monday. He was arrested for a traffic offense and jailed. Stereo equipment was burglarized from a vehicle in the 300 block of West Baker early Sunday between 2 30 and 9 11 a m. Another vehicle was involved.
