The Baytown area recorded more than 4 inches of rain over the past week with heavy showers on Tuesday and Wednesday that flooded streets and disrupted traffic. Forecasts call for cloudy skies and only slight temperature changes with highs in the mid to upper 80s.

Sterling High will install a sky-lighted green house wall for botany studies at Ross Sterling High School. Dredging Greens Bayou Approved for 470000

Pope Paul I plans a Sunday celebration for his 68th birthday and an unprecedented visit to a gathering of about 3000 gypsies from around the world. City council approves tax increase to fund bonds and raises
Taxpayers face a rate rise of about 7 percent to finance capital improvements. The $1.43 tax rate includes $1.015 million of bonds for first phase, with $733,000 more bonds planned later. Eight cents will partly fund city employee raises of $30 monthly. Salaries will require about $143,715 more, offset partly by sewer and water revenues and higher water sales. Water revenue projection increased to $535,000 from $503,060 due to billing changes.

La Porte Men Sought After Shrimp Boat Sighting
Two La Porte men aboard a shrimp boat were last seen during a rain squall in Galveston Bay Wednesday afternoon. G L Dudley aged 59, owner, and deck hand D A Akers 43 were reported missing after the storm forced the vessel back to port near Hogston Ship Channel Beacon 65. The Galveston County Sheriff's Department and local police pursued updates on their whereabouts.

City Workers Win One Year Retirement Extensions
