EPA warns cap at San Jacinto site shows containment

Results summarized by MIMC and International Paper indicate the armored cap and conditions south of Interstate 10 prevent dioxin and furan releases from paper mill wastes. Pore water shows no detected fingerprints, north-of-I 10 readings lower than 2010, and groundwater data show no subsurface transport. Stakeholders question data access and objectivity as cap history includes 2015 damage and ongoing monitoring.

DPS to review traffic stops to curb profiling

The Texas Department of Public Safety will regularly review traffic stop data to ensure minority motorists are not stopped and searched at higher rates. The audit shifts to evaluating individual troopers rather than aggregate numbers after the Austin American-Statesman analyzed 14 million DPS records from 2009 to 2015, revealing minority motorists faced higher search rates and that 231 troopers searched minorities at least twice as often as whites.
