Baytown Community Alliance hosts an $8 enchilada dinner fundraiser at New Beginnings Church 3220 North Alexander on Friday Sept 23 from 11 am to 2 pm. Tickets may be bought in advance by calling 281 389 8417 or at the church. The proceeds support the Friends Serving Friends community Thanksgiving Dinner now in its 15th year, serving Thanksgiving Day to all visitors. Shirley Sneed notes last year’s event served over 3,000 meals. volunteers and donors from local businesses make it possible.
Annual event at Fort Anahuac Park in Anahuac Texas drew crowds described as thick with elbow to elbow alligators and excitement. Chairwoman Sarah Cerrone estimated about 35 000 attendees with many saying they would return, while Mayor Sue Hawthorne highlighted the economic boost from visitors and spending.
Copper thieves stole hundreds of dollars in copper wiring from the Baytown Youth Fair at 7900 North Main Street. BYF volunteers warn losses are not insured, with about $450 in the first theft and over $1,000 in the second, both causing power outages affecting events. Constables from Harris County Precinct 3 assist in the case.
