Deputies search Baytown garages for a two tone green or blue car after the body of Lillie Dickerson is found near Sheldon cafe. Investigators say she walked onto the pavement seconds before being struck and killed, with evidence suggesting she slept near the cafe prior to the fatal hit and run. Identified by two daughters as Lillie Baxters Dickerson, previously known in Houston records.
Roy Campbell, captain of the J. C. Parker Co. crew, was knocked unconscious and severely shocked when an electric sander shorted out while cleaning the boat Gertrude in dry dock at the Cedar Bayou basin. He reached Lillie-Duke hospital conscious and described the accident, saying his boots were wet and the sander was not properly grounded. Workmen treated him before an Earthman ambulance took him to the hospital. Campbell works for a firm operating Humble Production Co. crews to drilling rigs in Trinity Bay.
In Joplin Missouri on September 17 a Waco mother identified her three year old son in juvenile court after a hotel operator reported a crying infant. The boy Dennis Folks was with Mrs Margaret Folks who claimed him as her own and sought custody. Police pursue the boy’s father and investigate the two families involved.
AUSTIN Sept 12 Insurgent Texas Democrats abandon bid to place Dwight D Eisenhower on the party ticket for the general election. Loyal Democrats backing Adlai Stevenson claim a court victory as the district court rules the Texas Democratic label cannot appear on ballots. Allen Wight Dallas chairman says the fight may continue in the third court of civil appeals. Renfro signals the end of the splinter group in Texas.
Washington reports a verbal duel between President Truman and Senator Taft as they dispute nomination plans. Taft sought the GOP nod but lost to Eisenhower at the Chicago convention, while Truman hints he will leave the White House next January, setting the stage for a season rivaling Ike versus Stevenson.

Milwaukee likely the site, date tentative, as Stevenson prepares for a major Eastern tour starting in Connecticut. Fulbright joins Stevenson staff for strategy and travel in the East.
Beaumont-Sour Lake and Western Railway seeks authority to discontinue interurban trains between Baytown Greens Bayou and Highlands. A hearing set for Nov 6 in Houston will hear evidence for and against the plan. About 500 city workers in Galveston walked off on Wednesday after the board of city commissioners rejected a $40 monthly wage increase. The walkout impacted garbage collection street work and the incinerator crew, with no picket lines to report.
