State Board boosts high school graduation requirements
The State Board of Education moved forward with a plan to raise graduation credits from 24 to 26, adding about two classes. A new law requires four years of math and science starting with this year's eighth grade class. The board hopes to protect electives while adding math and science, allowing Algebra in eighth grade to count toward four years. Educators warned about hiring teachers and labs, and about possible declines in course rigor or increased dropout risk.
