Washington State and Houston battled to a 31-24 result as Anthony Gordon passed for 440 yards and three touchdowns. Gordon connected on a 7-yard fourth quarter TD and two 39-yard scores, lifting the Cougars to 3-0 with the lead-changing plays late.

United Ross Sterling thrashed Beaumont United 3 0 in District 21 6A action. Sterling built a 25-15 25-14 25-3 lead as Jasmine Moore led with nine kills and six digs, Brooke Benoit added 13 assists and four aces, Kayla Jones posted 18 digs, and Alex Lee contributed eight assists and eight digs. Kenady Irwin and Stephanie Williams added key defense and Tanisha Joseph added four kills.
Crosby traveled to Galena Park and dominated 3-0 in the district opener 25-19 25-12 25-20. Charle Van Zandt led with 10 kills, Jade Johnson added seven kills, and Liz Siemek recorded 16 digs as Crosby improved to 19-5.
Barbers Hill topped Dayton 3-1 to start district play, 25-18 21-25 25-10 29-27. Kejonen led with 10 kills three blocks .667 hitting. Wingo 16 assists six kills three aces. Hennigan 25 assists 21 digs seven kills three aces. Burnett 17 digs eight kills three aces as Nederland prepares for Mont Belvieu Tuesday.
Anahuac 11-16 fell 3-0 to East Chambers in District 22 3A play. Coach Lauren Brandon praised Erin Willcox Maci Bennett and Sydney Bertrand for strong defense and big plays despite jitters in set one and rust in set two. Sydney Bertrand anchored serve receive with a pivotal late rally in set three.
Ganders quarterback Irenen Wooley threw for four and ran in three as ABL beat REI ABA 3-0 in a prep game. He totaled 207 passing yards and 128 rushing yards. Teammates Keke Davis Elijah Partida Jabier Quinones and Trudell Berry contributed on offense. The Ganders, now on a bye week, head to district play at Port Neches Groves on Sept 27.
BCA defeated Covenant Christian 75 to 28 in the home opener Friday night as Kyron Pitre threw for two scores and ran for another. Colton Anderson and Jakob Wheatfall ran for 153 and 103 yards respectively, combining for four rushing touchdowns to lift BCA to 3-0. Bridge City topped Anahuac 35-21, with Panther QB Foster Kruezer accounting for all three Anahuac scores.
Lee falls to Odessa College after opening 3-0 win over Allen CC in the afternoon at the tournament. Danielle Essix praised the team's energy and system as Lee builds confidence ahead of hosting Temple College next Saturday. Pulelehua Keb led with 10 kills, Ramsey had 24 assists, and Willis added 10 digs.
