Goose Creek ISD approves TRE and tax rate swap for 2016
In June the Goose Creek CISD board kept the tax rate near prior levels at 1.43189 per 100, with a move of the maintenance and operations rate from 1.04 to 1.17 and a reduction in the M&S rate to 0.26189. The 13 rent penny swap raises state funding by about 14 million, split with 7 million for the I&S to cover 2013 bonds and 7 million for the district general fund. Final vote count was 1,097 for and 259 against, though canvassing on Sept. 21 will confirm results. District spokeswoman Beth Dombrowa outlined next steps for tax assessment and state aid. If the TRE had failed, state funding would decrease and the tax base would shrink.
