Robert E. Lee defeated Galena Park 3-1 in a District 24-4A volleyball match. The result reflects a solid team performance as the Lee players controlled the set flow and maintained the lead throughout.
Police say a late night fight at Baytown Players Billiards in the 2100 block of North Alexander led to two employees stabbed with knives. A 31 year old and a 37 year old man were hospitalized in stable condition at Memorial Hermann Hospital. Suspects John Hagberg 24 and Christina Cabrera 34 confessed after surveillance and interviews.
Goose Creek CISD held its fifth Reach Out Walk on Saturday with 280 district and community volunteers visiting homes of more than 160 students who had not returned to school. The effort aimed to re enroll students, provide resources, and encourage graduation with many requiring tutoring flexible scheduling or child care.
Baytown Police Department plans to hire eight patrol officers with a starting probationary salary of 41829 dollars. Incentives include a 1500 dollar signing bonus, up to 2000 dollar academy reimbursement, bilingual and certificate pay, a Texas peace officer pay scale, and relocation up to 2000 dollars. Duties include protecting life and property and enforcing traffic laws, investigating crimes, and reporting incidents.
The Mont Belvieu City Council unanimously approved hiring two new police officers Santiago Turrubiate and Travis Mendenhall to grow a 10 person department led by Police Chief Virgil Blasdel. The move replaces departing officers while city growth drives higher demand and response. In August officers handled 380 calls, with 33 suspicious activity, 22 thefts, nine burglaries, 113 misdemeanor arrests and 26 felonies. 161 warnings were issued.
