Fall TV season kicks off with new series and familiar types
Tele cove previews a broad season with ABC The Rookies and CBS The New Bill Cosby Show debuting. The Rookies centers on three young cops in a big city with strong acting but needs writing. The Cosby Show, aided by Belafonte and Poitier, shows potential despite a weak premiere. Baseball note reports Tigers slight AL lead, Orioles slump, Oakland strong, NL race tight.
