Bar ge Thought Found Deadly Chlorine Threat
Two professional divers searched the muddy Mississippi River for an underwater object believed to be a sunken barge loaded with deadly chlorine. The barge, owned by Pittsburgh Plate Glass, had 600 tons of chlorine and was ripped from moorings by Hurricane Betsy. officials said no immediate threat. A Navy destroyer and diving team joined the search as weather and river conditions complicated navigation.

Channelview school bond defeat ends expansion plan
Channelview voters rejected a $1 million bonds proposal to relieve crowding by 574 to 238, following a prior $2 million failure in March by 21 votes. A separate measure to raise the property tax cap failed 491 to 346. Total turnout was 912 of about 2,500 eligible.
