Waiting for a New Life After Katrina Refugees Rebuild in Baytown
In a continuation of a series, Wendy Giardina recounts fleeing New Orleans ahead of Katrina with her daughter Jennifer and two grandchildren. They found Baytown refuge, faced communication outages and loss, then began rebuilding with aid from Red Cross, United Way, and insurance. Jennifer secured a job at The Baytown Sun, they moved into a small trailer, and family members located in Arkansas and Louisiana were safe. The experience brought patience and resilience amid ongoing needs for FEMA, unemployment, and continued assistance.
