City Submits Priority List For County Bond Election

Harris County Judge Jonway plans to deliver city priorities for a county bond election. The top item is adding a four lane expansion on North Main from Baker intersection to Interstate 10 with curbs and gutters. Next, four lanes on Baker Street from Decker Drive to Cedar Bayou Lynchburg Road, including storm sewers. Other high priorities include Decker Drive and Garth Read, Cedar Bayou Lynchburg Road from Decker to Cedar Bayou, and Bush Street four lanes with storm sewers from Baker to Cedar Bayou.

City To Pay 220 000 For Water Plant Site Near Baytown

Baytown Area Water Authority plans a surface water treatment plant on about 60 acres north of I 10 beside the CIWA canal. Two tracts, one owned by the Russell estate at 3 510 per acre and another by Texas Wesleyan College at 3 750 per acre, will be acquired with earnest money for 30.6 acres. Construction is set to start in early 1978 with a total project cost around 55.37 million and bonds already sold totaling 1.25 million. Bonded debt will raise water rates after October 1 and again in two years.

Baytown Officer Paulk Killed in Patrol Car Crash

Baytown patrolman Paulk was killed when his police car was hit head on by a van on Lawndale Avenue near Lakewood at 8 40 pm Friday. Witnesses identified the van driver as 24 year old Ernest Andrewong of Alabama. The van crossed lanes and struck the patrol car. Driver Sutton and another officer gave details of the crash and Paulk was pinned. he will be buried in Albany, Georgia after a memorial service.

Doctor Bevil and the Perricone Quads of Beaumont

In early oil boom days Baytown families moved from Batson-Sour Lake area to Beaumont where Dr John Bevil, a country physician, delivered many babies. The Perricone quads Anthony Bernard Carl and Donald live on Quad Lane with homes built side by side. Bevil, at 97, and the quads near 48, remain notable. The quads are believed to be among the oldest living quadruplets. On Sept 17 the DAR and SAR will honor Bevil with a Medal of Honor for distinguished service to humanity at Mary and John Gray Library. A tribute in Big Thicket Legacy recalls Bevil as a beloved family doctor who helped generations, with many babies named John Rus in Hardin County.
