Defense Chief Challenged Thomas To Push Sale Of Dickson Gun Plant
Rep Albert Thomas plans to urge a congressional fight in January to sell the Dickson Gun Plant at Galena Park after Defense Secretary Brucker refused to authorize a sale. Thomas says the 122 acre site costs taxpayers 150000 annually in maintenance and that private industry could create 2000 to 3000 jobs. The plant, built in 1911, has operated briefly and been mothballed, with aging equipment and obsolete facilities. He argues remodeling would cost more than relocating and cites Army modernization plans next year.

Baytonian’s Father Dies In Galveston
Albert Peter Cook of Silsbee father of Mrs. R. W. Pipkin died at 7 a.m. Saturday in a Galveston hospital after an illness dating to last March. The pioneer Texas business man was 76. Funeral arrangements will be announced by Farmer Funeral Home in Silsbee. Survivors include Mrs. Pipkin, three other daughters Mrs. H. T. Rainieri of Galveston, Mrs. Hubert L. Dobbs of Louisville, Ky., and Miss Sarah Cook of Silsbee. three sons A. B. Cook and D. F. Cook of Silsbee and Dr. Chester F. Cook of Dallas.

Two Injured In Crash At Texas and Whiting Intersection
Alberto Pantoja 57 and Tom my Uaphelio 15 of 172 Cypreas were treated and released at Baytown Hospital after a two car collision at 5 30 pm Friday at Texas and Whiting. Hawkins M4 in West Deser was cited for disregarding a red light by officer James P Taylor. Pantoja drove west of Texas and struck Hawkins car on the right front fender as he entered from the south, Taylor said.

DeFee To Be Made 1-Way On Monday
Baytown will convert DeFee Street between Pruett and Commerce to a single eastbound lane starting Monday at 9 a.m. Police will post signs and two officers will issue warnings. The change follows a traffic survey committee recommendation to ease flow past the bank drive in and nearby boxes and lots.
