Survived by daughter Laura Pratt Perkins and granddaughter Sarah Finley. Services September 8 at Faith Presbyterian Church. burial September 9 in Memoryland Memorial Park, Greenville. Edna Earle Williams 82 longtime Baytown resident died September 6 2008 surrounded by family Born December 24 1925 in Center Texas she was a Robert E Lee High School graduate and member of the Lee Brigadiers She worked as a bookkeeper and was active at St Mark's United Methodist Church She is survived by daughters Connie Beene LaDonna Williams and others and was preceded in death by her parents a son in law and a sister in law A memorial service was set for September 9 2008 at St Church Memory Gardens interment followed pallbearers named and memorial contributions suggested to St Mark's or Odyssey Healthcare.

Robert Giroux a noted 20th century publisher who guided writers such as T S Eliot Jack Kerouac Bernard Malamud and Susan Sontag died in his sleep Friday at 94 in an assisted living facility in Tinton Falls New Jersey He helped create Farrar Straus and Giroux and began as an editor at Harcourt Brace before joining the fledgling firm in 1955 He contributed an intro to The Complete Stories of Flannery O Connor.

In the fourth year of the Community Scion program Community Toyota and Community Kia will each give a car in 2009. Goose Creek Memorial and Barbers Hill High Schools join the effort with a Scion for sophomores and juniors with perfect attendance at their football games halftime. A Kia Rio will be awarded to a Ross S. Sterling or Robert E. Lee student at their football game halftime. Total value of cars and fees is 32000 dollars. Roger Elswick credits attendance rewards with improving student outcomes and expanding the program this year.
