Austin AP reports the House plans to consider a 5.87 billion dollar two year state budget after the Senate approved it and a 349 million dollar tax package. A 10:30 a.m. Rules hearing will address a resolution reprimanding Land Commissioner Jerry Sadler and a call for a full inquiry into the General Land Office. Adjournment expected tonight or Tuesday.

A break in trunk circuits between Southwestern Bell’s Capital and Orchard offices caused critical impairment of Houston central zone calls on Monday morning. General Telephone District Manager Al Chappell said only limited calls got through and emergency calls were rerouted via the Baytown toll center. Service restoration was not expected before noon after the 7 a.m. interruption.

The National Hurricane Center says Navy aircraft will investigate a tropical low about 100 miles east of Daytona Beach. Conditions favor possible intensification as the system moves north northeast at about 10 mph. strongest winds near 40 mph.

AP reporting in Jerusalem that Dr. James A. Pike, former Episcopal bishop of California, was found dead on a canyon ledge two miles from the spot where his wife Diane left him for aid. Diane Pike said he had sought death and death brought him peace joining their book project as a memorial.
