Bible Reading and Prayer Still Used By Schools
The Associated Press reports Bible reading or prayer remained common in many public schools. Some districts followed state laws while others delayed guidance after the Supreme Court ban, with Pennsylvania and several Southern states showing varied adherence. Silent meditation replaced devotions in parts of New England. In Alabama Governor Wallace defended ongoing practices and some districts continued voluntary devotions despite federal rulings.
