Bush signals possible troop reductions in Iraq as security holds
President says 30,000 more troops arriving since February could return home gradually if progress continues. After talks with Gen. Petraeus and Ambassador Crocker he pledged force levels will rest on military assessments, not media polls. Anbar Province, once a Sunni insurgent stronghold, is now cited as a safety model. 162,000 U.S. troops are in Iraq, including 30,000 that joined since February to back a unity government effort.
