Budget cuts loom in Baytown 1965 1966 fiscal plan
Baytown City Council nears completion of the annual budget study with a total of 4,695,590 for fiscal 1965 1966, about half a million over the 1967 1968 budget. The major cut is the removal of a 10,000 annual city contribution to the Baytown Health League. The council argues residents should not be double taxed for medical costs.

Baytown Rotary Club Celebrates Its 40th Birthday
Baytown Rotary marked its 40th birthday with a noon meeting at the Tower. Eighteen past presidents shared stories from their terms while Fred Bartman hosted and Neal Dickens chaired. Current president Dr. Lee Lissett and vice president Charles L. Tillery led the program. Charter members and early sponsors traced the club's Goose Creek origin from a four-man casual meeting in 198 late at Herring Drug Store. Dayton Rotary aided the charter, First Baptist Church women helped host the first meeting, and the Goose Creek club received its Rotary International charter from Dr. T. Tadlock of Dayton. Notable attendees emphasized high attendance. William “Billy” Quartz has the longest Baytown attendance streak with three years of perfect record, joined by others with 14 to 18 years. The Rotary motto, Service above self, was highlighted.
