Inflation Strains Italian Postman Family in Rome
In Rome, Antonio Fiumara a 37 year old mailman with two sons and a wife describes living on 310 a month with 1700 a year in tips. Inflation runs high with 14.4 percent this year and 10 percent last year. They rent barely 20 a month in a government housing project and rely on tips for living money. They cut back on meat fruit and clothing and rely on state health care with paid dental and eye care. They take a near free vacation to the Abruzzi mountains and use subsidized transport.
