J R Towles, the 23 year old Crosby prospect, is among seven September call ups joining the Houston Astros in Milwaukee. He will join the team after Round Rock finishes the season and travels Tuesday for his major league debut Wednesday against the Brewers. Towles rose through the minors this season after a hamstring injury and strong time at Corpus Christi and Round Rock. He was a 20th round pick in 2004 and has a JUCO All American background at Collin County JC.
Beaumont Central outlasted Lee Ganders 20-14 in the season opener at Babe Zaharias Stadium. Charles Thomas rushed 44 yards for a TD, Victor Spikes hauled in a 56-yard scoring pass, and Patrick Fobbs connected for 169 passing yards as Central improved to 2-0 in the night’s delayed kickoff. Jarvis Moore led Lee with 130 rushing yards and 18 receiving yards on 18 carries scoring both Ganders touchdowns.
