United Press reports a powerful Atlantic hurricane reached 135 mph as Mosquito light aircraft and bombers attacked Red front lines. Spotter planes hover over Communist trenches amid heavy fire near de Hanée, while UN fighters press the offensive.
Robert Hill of Goose Creek Lodge 451 is named district deputy grand chancellor after a briefing with Grand Chancellor Russell Hardin. Scout and Guardette meetings are planned while high school registration and Burnet P TA meetings announce upcoming duties and budgets. Wallie Bond earns a BBA from University of Houston and returns to work with American General Insurance.

Patrolman Adkinson and G E Allen stopped a Baytown man for speeding at Lee Drive and West Main. A brown paper bag of green leaves believed to be marijuana was found under the front seat. Houston narcotics officers later confirmed the leaves were marijuana and the suspect was re-arrested for investigation.
Frank A Busch, a Cedar Bayou lifelong resident and retired farmer, dies at 83 after a long illness. Last rites set for Wednesday with Earthman Chapel rites and a St Joseph's Catholic church service in Cedar Bayou. Burial in Cedar Bayou Masonic cemetery directed by Earthman Funeral Home. Survivors include widow Madeira Busch, daughter Mrs Donnelly, stepdaughters Bertha Castine, Mrs Bessin Lacy, Mrs Tiebelle Adams, five grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.
La Porte Bay Shore Recreation Association officers discussed fundraising Tuesday after County YWCA allotments were cut off. They seek support from civic organizations and local business to keep the unit solvent as 28,000 was spent last year on salaries leadership utilities and playground equipment. Completion of the miniature golf course could generate income but not enough to cover total costs. Plans for a La Porte swimming pool were discussed by Mrs Campton.
Funeral services for 86 year old Mrs. Smith of La Porte will be held at First Baptist Church at 2 pm Wednesday. She died after a fall caused by a broken hip in a Houston hospital transfer. Surviving is son Ipe Smith of La Porte. Services under Art Simpson Funeral Home with Rev Parrish officiating at South Park Cemetery in Houston.
A Baytown resident, just two hours from serving a 30 day jail term, disposed of 14 dogs by loading them in a city truck and releasing them in Highlands near Clear Lake Road. Highlands residents called police in outrage over the incident and annexation tensions.
La Porte residents received a preschool warning as Police Chief Walter Roberson prepared a school safety campaign. A 20 mph limit will be posted near the school area and strictly enforced. The junior sheriff patrol, about 30 members under Principal Marvin Burch, will assist children crossing streets wearing helmets and caps with stop flags. Funds are being raised for patrol badges.
Funeral services for Fred Carroll of Ta Porte were held today as the body was laid to rest. The record notes indicate Carroll had been ill for the past two years and there are no survivors listed in the available text.
A piercing cold front from Texas Tuesday lowers Northeast Texas temperatures by 30 to 40 degrees and sweeps south toward San Antonio and Del Rio. Fort Worth saw a drop from 102 to 63 as heavy rain and windstorm damage surge in Brownwood and Brown County.
E G Plant woke to a near wreck after a 2 a.m. crash when his home street sighted a damaged convertible and a parked car. Petty Tr. 1265 West Sterling reports the other driver, asleep at the wheel, received a reckless driving ticket. Plant’s car damage estimated at 400 dollars. Petty’s garage bill similar.
Cornelius Devis, 23, a repair man for Higginbotham Company, nearly lost his left arm when his car sideswiped Robertson Transport Co. tank truck on Crosby Lynchburg Road near Barrett Settlement. Driver Haltom of Genoa steered to the shoulder to dodge the collision. Devis was taken to Sz cinta Memorial hospital by Earthman ambulance.
Dwight D. Eisenhower, enroute with Eisenhower, denounces the Truman administration as a top to bottom mess. He criticizes political bosses in Washington and attacks Democratic policy while touring the South with speeches in Atlanta, Jacksonville, Miami, Tampa, Birmingham, and Little Rock. He accuses officials of incompetence and corruption and calls for a wholesale cleansing of political leaders.
Governor Adlai Stevenson announced a 20 day western campaign tour after a string of five speeches in Michigan. He praised industrial centers there and urged scrapping the Taft Hartley Act for new labor legislation with emergency wartime seizure powers for the president. He noted the act is biased and politically inspired yet not entirely wrong.
President Truman hits full stride in campaign for the 1952 Democratic ticket with six whistle stop talks scheduled from his train across Ohio and West Virginia. He sharply attacks Republicans for wanting to turn back the clock and denounces the Supreme Court steel decision as a modern Dred Scott ruling.
