Goose Creek to build new high school in 2008

Goose Creek plans a 366000 square foot high school with 22 students per classroom funded by 50.8 million from a 2005 bond and 20.4 million from a 1994 bond. The project shifts Lee to 4A, moves Sterling to 5A later, and features a gated entrance, separate student and staff parking, and house style classrooms. Construction starts June 12, 2006 with opening in 2008 amid district reallocation and legal review.

Baytown area districts weigh job order contracting use

A Baytown Sun survey shows Goose Creek, Galveston ISD, Anahuac and other districts use or oppose job order contracting JOC for renovations and smaller projects. Galveston appeals a court ruling limiting JOC for a 36 million middle school rehab while districts cite time and cost savings and caution against broad use. Local leaders stress bidding remains the preferred method for large projects.
