Baytown killer's death sentence commuted to life by governor
Robert Acuna, 17 at the time, was condemned for murdering neighbors James and Joyce Carroll in November 2003 in Baytown. Gov. Perry's order commuted 28 death row sentences, including Acuna's, to life in prison after a Supreme Court ruling on juvenile executions. Acuna's appeals attorney said further challenges would focus on guilt, not sentence.
