Independent Oil Operators Oppose Break-Up Proposal
The Independent Petroleum Association of America rejects breaking up major oil companies as a cure for energy crisis. Representing about 4,100 independents, the group argues divestment would reduce efficiency and raise consumer prices, while price controls hinder exploration. President A. Jones Jr. says trusts may not boost supplies and urges free market incentives to expand domestic energy, warning intrastate controls worsen shortages.
