County jail bond on ballot for Harris County voters

Harris County voters face a November 9 election on a $6 million jail bond to fund a county prison farm on a 651 acre tract south of Atascocita Road, plus four Texas constitutional amendments. Absentee voting runs through early November at the County Clerk’s office in Houston. The prison farm design emphasizes an administration center, cross-shaped detention buildings, and park-like zones, with expansion potential and jail labor use. County officials quoted say the project aims to reduce costs and improve conditions while offering inmates healthful work and skill building opportunities.
