COLLEGE STATION Oct 28 UP Farmers were used Tuesday to supplement 180 Texas Forest Service employees as drought dried grasses and timberlands in East Texas into tinder for the slightest flame. Forest Service director A D Folgester said last week averaged 30 to 70 fires daily, with higher numbers possible if weather does not improve. He fears many fires were set by hunters, but hunting cannot be banned without legislative action. Workers are concentrated in 26 East Texas counties where piney woods and swamp areas face greatest danger.
