Pasadena Man Injured In Mont Belvieu Blast
A Pasadena man, 35 year old Harding, suffered extensive burns and remained hospitalized after a pipeline explosion near Mont Belvieu while operating a digging machine for Sinclair Pipeline Co. The blast damaged a pickup and melted nearby tail lights as two high pressure gas lines were ruptured. Harding’s brother said the man stumbled away from the fire and rolled to extinguish his burning clothes. A Lipsey Inc contractor said the lines appeared on area maps. Glascock of Mobil Chemical noted one line carried butane and another was high pressure, with breaks isolated by midafternoon. The fire burned on late Friday night while crews worked to control the blaze.

Wages and Benefits Talks Between BEF and Humble Enjay
BEF and Enjay officials announced a wage and benefit package offer to about 3,530 Humble Oil and Refining Co and Enjoy Chemical Co employees represented by BEF and Gulf Coast Industrial Workers Union. The proposal includes a $21 monthly wage rise for BEF members and a total $27.50 monthly package with increased hospitalization and insurance contributions and a one year service employment pension provision. Negotiations began last August with a tentative agreement after the wage-benefit offer, subject to mail ballot ratification by BEF members, about two weeks away. The BEF counterproposal called for a 42 percent wage rise with a $2 minimum and small hourly differentials, plus a $1.28 insurance increase. Gulf Coast Union workers would receive a 12 cent hourly increase, totaling an $18 cent per hour rise with benefits.
