Baytown Mayor Stephen DonCarlos spoke to third graders at St. Joseph Regional Catholic School. The visit highlighted civic engagement and local government, with the mayor answering students’ questions and stressing community service.
In four days Baytown logged three commercial robberies. Saturday a pair hit a West Baker Road pharmacy stealing prescription drugs. Monday three armed suspects, two at the counter, robbed a McDonald’s in the 7000 block of Garth near I 10. A pawn shop robbery Tuesday yielded about $10,000 in jewelry.
The Cedar Bayou Navigation District votes to spend 78500 dollars on a study documenting the economic benefits of proposed dredging and channel straightening along Cedar Bayou. The aim is to align Corps of Engineers estimates with local industry expectations and aid budget lobbying. The board also cancels November meeting and shifts December meeting to December 12.
After the second of three scheduled debates, U S Rep Gene Green and State Rep Wayne Smith offered opposing views. Green praised Obama's aggressive, energized tone while Smith credited Romney with control and decisive leadership during the Hofstra University event.
