Bentsen seeks to keep unspent CHIP funds in Texas
Outgoing Rep. Ken Bentsen introduced a bill to restore 285 million dollars in unspent federal children's health insurance funds to Texas. The measure would extend spending deadlines, allow 60 percent of 1998 1999 allotments to be kept, and attach to appropriations or continuing resolutions. Texas faces about 1.4 million uninsured children while 508 000 have CHIP coverage and the state must spend or forfeit allocations within three years.
