Market Street Road through Harris County history described
Harris County planned and rebuilt Market Street from Lynchburg to Goose Creek starting 1847, with ferries, bridges, and routes to Houston. By 1928 the Goose Creek bridge opened and later Baytown rerouted Market Street to Baytown, renamed Bayway Drive in 1955. The road still exists in Channelview and Baytown, with creosote pilings visible at low tide. Chuck Chandler of Baytown Historical Preservation Association provided details.
