Post Office Guns For Smut Mailers
The Post Office abandons broad censorship and targets dealers who mail pornography to those who complain. Chief Inspector Montague says the aim is to keep ads from children, while heat is off consenting private exchanges. Since 1957 courts and the Justice Department hindered action, protests become central. A federal antipandering law has spurred about 75 000 complaints since April, enabling individuals to force removal from mailing lists.
