Popular pumpkin patches attract families for Halloween picks

Pumpkin patches at First Nazarene Church in Baytown and First United Methodist Church in Mont Belvieu draw crowds as Halloween nears. The Nazarene patch runs 2 to 8 pm weekdays and 10 am to 8 pm Saturdays through Oct 31, with rides, free train rides, games and photo spots. About 3,000 pumpkins are priced 50 cents to 50 dollars. First Methodist on Eagle Drive opens 11 am to 7 pm weekdays, 9 am to 7 pm Saturdays, and 12 to 5 pm Sundays, with a festival featuring vendors and a bouncy house. The church houses 41,000 pounds of pumpkins, also 50 cents to 50 dollars, with photo spots and family-friendly activities.

Cedar Bayou Voyage Kayaks Draw City Support

The Cedar Bayou Friends hosted the first Cedar Bayou Voyage a 5.5 mile bayou trip ending at Roseland Park drawing about 48 paid kayakers plus nine others including the skipper Sea Scouts and two volunteers. City officials and Baytown residents joined, with plans discussed for an annual event in October and a meeting scheduled to finalize details.

Suspect Identified in Bus Stop Stabbing

Baytown police identify a stabbing suspect using the alias Rafael Mendez after a 16 year old Ross S Sterling student was attacked near a bus stop on October 5. The non life threatening injury led to treatment at Bayshore Medical Center and later transfer to Clear Lake Regional. Authorities plan to file a warrant for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon once medical records are obtained.
