Apodaca urges education focus for Hispanic Texas growth
Ed Apodaca of the University of Houston Downtown told the Hispanic Chamber of Greater Baytown that socioeconomic status drives student success more than race. He warned Hispanics will be Texas's majority by 2030 and urged finishing college to avoid economic decline. He cited high dropout rates among Hispanic men, women’s tougher job prospects, and the need to close the achievement gap by encouraging four year degrees over associates.
