Mont Belvieu Studies English Only Sign Rule Debated
Mont Belvieu city council debated an English only sign ordinance amid court challenge worries. City Attorney Grady Randle said he would defend the measure but noted a compelling government interest must be shown. Council discussed possible language requiring non English text to be smaller or paired with English, then settled on bilingual signage as long as English is included. The panel also approved a $25,000 funding for an Eagle Drive turning lane toward I 10 and to issue RFQs for a master park planning service for a new 90 acre park on Eagle Drive land.
