Astros spirit spreads at Travis Elem as players visit
AEL baseball and softball players engage Travis Elementary third graders and Robert E. Lee High School teammates in Astro spirit activities. Amber Wheeler paints Colby Whisler’s face while Jumacy Torres receives help with a car door from Sergio Cortes and Izayah Hernandez as they arrive at school. Photos by Carrie Pryor-Newman. The Texas Department of Transportation postponed a traffic disrupting project at Highway 146 and Alexander to ease congestion from Interstate 10 bridge repairs. Baytown police and city officials met with TxDOT to mitigate impacts, postponing the 146 overpass work until February with hopes the I-10 bridge repairs finish first. Work would close main lanes at the 146 overpass, diverting traffic to feeder roads, and affect mobility. The project’s start is delayed as I-10 bridge work continues, with repairs targeted for the first quarter of 2020.
