Mystery Old Faithful Well Oozes When Turned On
Mr and Mrs Volk of 142 Center recount a five year drought of normal water use ending Sept 3 when their backyard well lifted the concrete slab and shed like a mushroom. Geologists and railroad engineers examined but offered no clear cause. Each time the pump is switched on soil oozes up around the casement like soup. Neighbors watched, a sign was posted, and the Volks plan a new well farther away while avoiding further pumping.
