Baytown Looks To Top 50 Block Parties For Night Out
Capt. David Alford notes modern shifts hinder neighborly ties as Baytown gears up for the Texas Night Out. Last year about 50 block parties drew over 2,500 attendees. organizers forecast a larger turnout this year. The National Night Out began in 1984 with 2.5 million participants in 400 communities. Now 35.2 million participate in 11,100 communities nationwide, with Baytown among them. The event is led by the National Association of Town Watch and backed by the U S Department of Justice and the Bureau of Justice Assistance.

Joyce and Buddy Carter fed FEMA workers and locals for two weeks, expanding from 100–150 daily customers to 400+ as neighbors donated food and energy. Roswell group claims Powerball jackpot over 200 million
