Goose Creek CISD breaks ground on a new Alamo Elementary at 6100 N. Main St Baytown as part of a three campus project. Construction underway for three similarly designed campuses near Apache Meadows, Victoria Walker, and Highway 146, with openings planned for August 2014.
Dustin Head, 22, died after being shot in the back with an assault rifle during an argument at a Baytown home on Kilgore Road. Haley Korocy, 17, initially claimed self defense but authorities say a murder charge is possible. Haley is jailed as investigators review the case.
The Baytown Symphony Orchestra starts its 2013 2014 season with a Beatles tribute by Classical Mystery Tour at 7:30 p.m. Saturday in the Lee College Performing Arts Center. Den nis Eichler conducts a full orchestra with period costumes and commentary. The event is supported by Baytown Tourism Bureau Lee College Baytown Symphony Inc and Houston Methodist San Jacinto Hospital. Jim Owen founder of Classical Mystery Tour says they strive to replicate the originals note for note.
Lee College spearheads a $500,000 ExxonMobil funded program with nine Houston area community colleges to train over 50,000 petrochemical workers in coming years. The effort addresses retirements and new plant expansions along the upper Texas Gulf Coast, calling for coordinated college capacity to supply skilled workers as industry demand rises.
Lee College will start summer classes a week earlier in 2014 and 2015, moving to the first week of June instead of the second, and the spring 2015 term will begin the week before Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Vice President Dr. Donetta Suchon said the changes return to traditional timing as high school schedules have shifted later, reducing summer enrollment.
