Wallisville Road in Chambers County Texas History
The Houston and Wallisville public road evolved from 1859 ferry routes to a Third Class road by 1877 linking San Jacinto, Cedar Bayou, and Wallisville. It faced ferries, bridges, and reroutings through the 1880s to 1924 when ferries closed. Today only the name remains with Baytown historian Chuck Chandler noting Lyle Lovett’s song.
