The Highlands district water and sewer improvement proposal failed again after 333 to 193 vote, with earlier offers 380 to 228 and 204 to 193. Officials cite substandard sewage, aging lines, and drainage issues as driving factors for continued needs and proposed upgrades.
REL Planning College Night Dec. 7 will bring 28 college reps to Lee High School for direct conferences with area juniors and seniors. Principal Henry Armstrong says each student and parent can meet representatives from at least three colleges during the 7 p.m. event in the Lee auditorium.
Sam Jenkins 76 father of Mickey K. Jenkins owner of L&M Studio on East Foyle died at John Sealy Hospital Galveston at 9 a.m. Tuesday after three weeks in hospital. Burial 2 p.m. Friday in Zephyr with Davis Morris funeral home Brownwood in charge. Survivors: wife Kathy two sons Mickey Jenkins Baytown Ivy Jenkins Fort Worth two daughters Holtis Gibson Freeport Wiley Williams Lake Jackson nine grandchildren.
About 45 Baytown families will receive complete ingredients for a Thanksgiving dinner in baskets donated by local residents. The Welfare League serves as the donation clearing house, with Caldwell of the Baytown Community Chest coordinating. Call 422-6793 for baskets or information.
Memorial service for Rev. William Edmund Dowty, 98, of St. James House, 2 p.m. Wednesday at Trinity Episcopal Church. Burial at Oak Grove Cemetery, Fall River, Mass., via Earthman and Cloughlin funeral homes. Dowty once rector of Holy Comforter Angleton and Grace Alvin, Yale graduate, longtime Spokane dean, Baytown resident. Survived by three daughters, one son, eight grandchildren, four great‑grandchildren. Funeral home: R. M. Williams Jr. Services for Richard Marvin Williams Jr., 18, of 505 B. Sterling at Paul A. Lee Chapel at 10 a.m. Thursday. Officiant: James W. Adams. Born in Memphis, lived in Baytown 17 years, Lee College student. Survived by parents, three brothers, one sister, two grandmothers. Burial: Cedar Crest Cemetery. Pallbearers listed.
