Baytown residents and volunteers gathered at the Baytown Community Center for the 16th Friends Serving Friends Thanksgiving meal organized by the Baytown Community Alliance. From 1 a.m. to 2 p.m. volunteers served turkey with dressing, cranberry sauce, vegetables, gravy and rolls, while donations funded the event with many diners taking meals home. Local resident Emily Goff said the event serves a purpose and plans to share two boxed meals with neighbors lacking transportation.
Baytown's Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 912 exceeded its 19000 goal in a fall fundraiser. Commander Jay Sanders cited the success as enabling support for local causes. Retired officer Ken Fat Mac Williamson received 500 to aid bicycle collection efforts for distributing gifts to children in need during the holiday season.
Texas Capital Development Corp Inc withdrew its plan to rezone 61.45 acres for a Baytown Crossing business park citing resident concerns over noise and truck traffic. City officials noted the application is fully withdrawn and will not return to council.
