Scientists study ozone spikes in Houston Galveston region
In the Houston Galveston airshed two ozone patterns puzzle scientists. Doug Deason of the Business Coalition for Clean Air says rapid rise and fall of ozone, sometimes 40 ppb higher in one hour, challenges the state plan to meet EPA standards by 2007. Working groups of 200-plus participants seek better chemistry, meteorology, and control measures for VOC emissions. A SIP update is expected by 2002 with further study culminating in 2003.
