Goose Creek’s first and last mayors shared sharp business minds
William Bussey and C. Q. Alexander built diverse ventures in Goose Creek before the city evolved into Baytown. Bussey, a 1916 mover from rice farming to oil town founder, paid for improvements himself and died in 1918. Alexander, arriving in 1939, started Bay Awning, helped found KRCT radio, led Tunnel Transit, and owned real estate and oil holdings, noted as Texas’s tallest mayor at 6 feet 9 inches.
