The Baytown Junior League invites applications for Christmas toys from Goodfellows. Applications are accepted at Baytown Community Center today from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Additional intake occurs Thursday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Opening arguments start in the capital murder case against Richard Redd 20 charged with killing Baytown resident Brian Joseph Williams 19 during a robbery. Williams was found shot in the head in his Ford Explorer inside the Boardwalk of Baytown apartments on Ward Road October 21 2007. Williams known as BJ had just finished Robert E. Lee High School. Police say the unarmed victim was killed at close range. SEE TRIAL PAGE 3.
Baytown Kiwanis clubs sell Red Delicious Granny Smith and Gala apples with pre orders and public sale running 7 30am to 6pm Friday and 10am to 6pm Sunday final day. President Chad Merling notes strong early sales while Anthony Crespo cites community support and a 70 year tradition at the Conn's parking lot on Garth Road. Sixty local high school Key Club students assist, with proceeds benefiting Key Clubs and groups such as American Cancer Society Bay Area Homeless Services Bay Area Rehabilitation Center Bayou Bowl and the Baytown Family YMCA.
During a Monday Goose Creek CISD board meeting parents voiced issues with special education and transportation. Diane Blankenship described her son as neglected and endangered by the district noting late records, unfed days, and improper bus placements. She urged reevaluation of the special education department amid high turnover. A grandfather cited his granddaughter’s eight years in private schools shifting to GCCISD for access to public schooling.
A Coast Guard search with helicopters boats and land units responded to a fisherman lost in thick fog near Trinity Bay en route from Oak Island. Chief Warrant Officer Lionel Bryant said rescue crews coordinated with Texas Parks and Wildlife after the man, lacking GPS charts or a compass, radioed for help around 7 30 p m. The effort aimed to locate him despite no obvious reference points and extended the response to nearby waters.
