Planning commission denies revised McGee Place plat

Baytown Planning Commission denied approval of a revised preliminary plat for McGee Place a 42 lot subdivision off Stolander Road The vote included Perry Walker Kenneth Simon Hank Tarski Bart Salinas Jack Walmsley Barry Bobbitt Ron Haddox and Mike Finley with Frank Whalen abstaining The plan had shifted from July with 42 lots to 29 additional smaller lots and faces appeal to Baytown City Council The commission also cut meeting frequency to once monthly beginning the first Monday each month

Hiring of director postponed by Baytown safety council

Baytown Citizens Safety Council voted to delay hiring a director until summer 1987 citing stagnant revenue and unclear duties. The group considers incorporation for liability and taxes, plans a new payroll system for 1987, and explores Behind the Wheel driving education to replace fall 1987 public school courses.

Baytown Schools Drop CTBS Testing for First and Third Grades

Deputy Superintendent Mike Madison announced CTBS will not be given to students in grades one and three while grades two, four, six, eight and ten continue CTES. TEAMS will replace CTBS for grades one and three, saving about 4000 dollars and reducing test time for teachers and principals.

Shultz restates U S policy amid Iran controversy

Secretary of State George P. Shultz urged reaffirming the U S anti terrorism doctrine amid debate over arms shipments to Iran. Groundbreaking for underpass set to begin in Dayton

The State Highway Department and Liberty-Dayton Area Chamber of Commerce will host a 1 a.m. Wednesday groundbreaking for a $4 million four lane underpass on Highway 321 between Highway 90 and Farm Road 1960. Ed Seymour says completion is expected in summer 1988. Bayou Contractors of Kingwood holds the contract.

Mont Belvieu reviews city hall floor plans

City department heads examine proposed floor plans for three of four buildings of the new Mont Belvieu city hall complex. A workshop with architect DeStefano and Associates is set for 6 p.m. December 4 at City Hall. Site drawings and outside views are on display at City Hall.

Partly cloudy skies expected with a Tuesday low near 60 degrees and a 20 percent rain chance. Wednesday should stay partly cloudy with a high in the mid 70s. A 24 hour period ending at 8 a.m. Tuesday recorded a low of 73 and a high of 0 degrees.

Baytown Ed Panels Plan Evening Meetings

Two school panels in Baytown will convene Tuesday night. A citizen educator committee will meet at 7 p.m. in Stuart Career Center to review curriculum needs. A second panel, consisting of district personnel and business representatives, will meet at 7 p.m. in the administration board room to study staffing and purchasing. The curriculum panel will hear seven subcommittee reports on elementary and junior curriculums, electives, vocational programs, scheduling and counseling, and whether programs meet student needs. A follow up on North Texas State University management study questions will also be presented.

Bundy narrowly avoids execution in last-minute stay

Theodore Bundy faced an near miss to his 7 am electrocution for the 12-year-old Kimberly Leach murder as the 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals granted a stay at 12 40 a m after courts refused to halt the execution. Residents reacted with anger while the case lingered.
