Tunnel veterans recall Baytown La Porte Tunnel tenure
Baytown native Mike Santana aged 84 recalls long service guiding 25 000 vehicles daily through the Baytown La Porte Tunnel alongside Jimmy Puckett of La Porte. They worked 16 and nearly 40 years respectively, starting at the ferry era and later supporting maintenance, guards, and control room operations in the 4 110 foot tunnel under the Houston Ship Channel, now history as the eight lane Fred Hartman Bridge opened in 2015, improving flow to 200 000 vehicles daily.
